About UsWe are Scott and Linda Petersen.
We travel. We eat. We drink. And, then we tell everyone about how great it is! We also like traveling to interesting destinations all over the country. But, since we live in Colorado, there are so many things to do right here in our own "back yard." We could spend the rest of our lives exploring Colorado and experiencing all the excellent outdoor activities. Linda teaches 4th grade at Greenwood Elementary in Greenwood Village (Cherry Creek Schools). Scott works for First Data in corporate sales. Together, we make a great team. On our day trips, Linda usually plans the menu. We either have one of our specialty homemade sandwiches or pasta salad. In addition, we usually have a few other "trail snacks" that we bring along. Scott manages the logistics, packing, and navigation. One of the things that we plan to add to our website soon are the GPS tracks that we record when we hike, bike, or ski. We usually bring the GPS to record our track, then we can email it to our friends and family who can overlay it on Google Earth. It's very cool. We will be adding that to our Destinations page and Photo Gallery this year. HikingA good pair of hiking boots, a comfortable day pack, and a high-tech walking stick; these are the tools of the trade. We always run through our hiking checklist to make sure we don't leave anything at home. Most importantly, our digital camera, binoculars, GPS, and extra water. We also pack yummy snacks. ;-) We have been as high as 10,200 feet in the Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), in Estes, Colorado. We have also made it to about 12,500 at Mt. Bierstadt. We have yet to conquer a "14er." You have to be well prepared and in good physical shape to make it that far. In 2007, we plan to make it to the summit of Mt. Bierstadt. It is by far, one of the most accessible 14,000 foot peaks in Colorado. There are over 50 "14ers" in Colorado. Only 20 minutes away is a wonderful place to go hiking and get a great view of a unique rock formation. Roxborough State Park offers 2 easy, almost level, hikes around a series of red rock formations that jut out of the earth. It looks likes the spine of a masive red dragon. Roxborough also offers 2 moderate hikes. From the park, you can also access Carpenter's Peak which sits on the Colorado Trail, folowing the continental divide. Roxborough Park sits on a rise, south of Lake Chatfield. The entrance to the park is a great place to watch the sunrise or watch the hot air balloons at Lake Chatfield. Inside the park, we have also seen deer, fox, red-tailed hawks, and eagles. SkiingIt's truly amazine how many ski fanatics we have here in Colorado. It's not surprising, since you can get to a dozen awesome ski mountains in less than 2 hours from Denver! We like to ski Copper and Winter Park. Every year, Scott gets the season pass from passwagon.com. Funny thing is that we pass 4 ski resorts just to get to Copper Mountain - Loveland, Arapahoe Basin (A-Basin), Winter Park, and Breckenridge. Scott is learning how to snowboard this season (2007). The season ski pass gives him discounts on lessons and rental ski equipment. If anyone reading this ever wants to go skiing or wants to learn to ski, send me an email and I'll take you to Winter Park or Copper. They have some of the best skiing instruction in the country! The snowmobiling outfitters are usually close by the ski resorts. If you are interested, I highly recomend taking a trip to the Corona Bowl. The snowmobile trails wind their way through the evergreens and the views are breathtaking. If you are interested, see my friends at Grand Adventures in Winter Park. CampingCan you really call it camping when you don't have to sleep in a tent? Yes! That's what a lot of people do out here. In the Summer, people hook up their campers and RVs and take to the hills (well, mountains). It really is amazing just how few people you see around town on the weekends in the Summer. Kids are out of school, the rivers are at their highest levels, the days are warm, the nights are cool. That makes for perfect camping! We have a Coleman Fleetwood which is a folding camper or what is sometimes called a "pop-up" camper. This thing is a major technological masterpiece. Everytime we take it out for the weekend, it amazes me what these guys can put into a folding camper. It has a refrigerator that can run on a marine battery, A/C power, and propane. It also has a toilet and a shower, a water heater, a 3-burner stove, a dinet that seats 4 people, a queen-sized bed and a king-sized bed! It's got a bunch of other accessories too. Check out our Coleman Fleetwood folding camper in the photo gallery. Other ActivitiesWe plan on getting new mountain bikes in Spring 2007. As soon as we get them, I'll post pictures and specs on the website. |
