Garden Of The Gods

The Garden of the Gods is just outside of Colorado Springs. The "garden" is a collection of natural rock formations carved out by the force of nature over millions of years. And, entrance to the park is always free.

GARDEN OF THE GODS

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO

Clear skies, cold, and windy. Yet, the park was packed with people. This is a spectacular place to see these unique rock formations as well as Pike's Peak and the surrounding mountains in the background.

Kissing Camels
Entrance to the Garden of the Gods.
This is called "kissing camels." It was hard to get just the right shot because of how close you are to the red rock ridges.
Dedication plaque by Charles Elliott Perkins
Mountain Climbers
Dedication plaque from Charles Elliott Perkins. This huge steel plaque is about 20 feet tall and is embedded in a sheer rock wall in the park. The bottom of the plaque is about 15 off the ground. Notice how it says that the park will "be kept forever free to the public." Very cool.
This is one of the many rock ridges in the Garden of the Gods. Can you see the climbers? Click on the picture to get a closup look at the climbers.
Three Sisters
Balancing Rocks
This formation is called the three sisters.
See the boulders precariously balanced on the rock spires.
Dual Rocks
Rock Layers
More intimidating features.
It's hard to tell in this picture, but this is actually 3 separate layers of rock ridges.
Rhino Rock
White Rock
This is Scott's parents standing in front of what looks like a huge rhino!
This is an anomaly called white rock. It is a stark contrast to the red rocks that dominate the park.
