A
RARE SIGHT
ELK
AT ROCK MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK
Being this close to so many elk at one time was a
truly fortunate and remarkable event!

If
you are going to do the loop, start by going to The Pool and then on to
Cub Lake. The Ascent to The Pool and descent from Cub Lake is MUCH
easier than the other way around.
|
On
the way out to The Pool, we passed by Arch Rocks, a very intimidating
set of boulders with large overhanging ridges. They were so big, that
we couldn't even get half of it in the picture.

This
is a great shot of The Pool. The water flows down
a narrow part of the river, then over a bank of boulders into a deep
crater in the river. This create a mesmerizing turbulence that you
could watch for hours.
|
Here
is a great shot downriver from the bridge over The Pool. I actually
have this picture as my desktop background.

The
rings of vegetation and lily pads and the sun glistening off the water
of Cub Lake was majestic. The colors were so vibrant and scintillating
that it seemed surreal.
|
The
multitude of ducks foraging for food was so thick they were literally
tripping over our boots.
